The ticket has the wrong registration or vehicle details
The PCN shows a registration, make or colour that is not your vehicle, or the ANPR misread your plate.

How to appeal, step by step
- 1
Compare every detail
Check the registration, make, model and colour on the notice against your V5C. ANPR cameras frequently misread similar characters (0/O, 1/I, 5/S, 8/B).
- 2
Decide which problem it is
Either the camera misread your plate (challenge the accuracy of the capture), or the charge genuinely relates to a different vehicle (you are not the keeper and are not liable).
- 3
Appeal with your V5C details
State the correct registration and vehicle details, point out the mismatch, and ask them to produce clear ANPR images showing the contravention.
Frequently asked questions
The camera misread my plate — is that a valid appeal?
Yes. If the photographs do not clearly show your vehicle committing the contravention, the operator has not made its case. Ask them to provide the entry and exit images.
It is not my car at all — what do I do?
If the charge relates to a different vehicle you were never the registered keeper of, you are not liable under Schedule 4 of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Make that clear and provide your V5C.

Other reasons to appeal
AppealIQ generates draft letters to assist your appeal. It is not legal advice — always review the letter and use the official appeal channel printed on your notice. Whether a charge is a private Parking Charge Notice or a statutory council Penalty Charge Notice changes the process; pick the matching guide on the appeal hub.
